Since November 2019, the scientific club “Ystyq Shelpek” has been operating at the Department of Economics and Entrepreneurship. The members of the Club include faculty members, doctoral students and, upon request, master’s students of the department, as well as academic staff and doctoral students from other departments of the Faculty of Economics at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, and faculty, staff, and students from other universities in Kazakhstan and abroad.
The main objective of the Club is to develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of economic research through reading, discussing, and publishing articles in the world’s leading economic journals.
Main activities of the Club:
-
Organization and conduct of the scientific seminar “Ystyq Shelpek,” where papers from the world’s top ten economic journals are presented and discussed. To date, 15 high-quality papers by leading economists have been presented and discussed;
-
Publication (depositing) of Club members’ economic papers in working paper format through the ENU website or other repositories such as ub.uni-muenchen.de. The first paper of a Club member has been published in the repository mpra.ub.uni-muenchen.de: https://mpra.ub.uni-muenchen.de/105084/ (MPRA Paper No. 105084);
-
Encouraging Club members to study modern economic literature through the “Library of the Ambitious Economist,” which contains contemporary academic literature from leading universities worldwide, including works by Nobel laureates in Economics;
-
Promoting publication of Club members’ research in high-ranking economic journals. Many members and doctoral students have submitted their articles to journals indexed in Scopus.
In 2022–2023, representatives of foreign universities and scientific organizations expressed interest in participating in the seminar. In particular, the seminars were attended by Kamen Spassov Velichkov (Bulgaria), staff member and diplomatic adviser of the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC); Yaroslav Kultan, PhD, Professor at the University of Economics in Bratislava (Slovakia); and other participants. Information about the Club’s seminars is published on the official website of the Faculty of Economics (ef.enu.kz).
