
The Department of Management is a structural subdivision of the Faculty of Economics of the L.N. Gumilyov ENU, which trains highly qualified managers who are able to solve business problems and tasks taking into account current trends in the development of the national economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The mission of the department is to implement the concept of continuing education and introducing innovative approaches to educational activities, to train highly qualified specialists in the field of management, able to act effectively in modern conditions, to provide competitive specialists of the labor market of Kazakhstan.
The main goal of the department is to train competitive specialists in the field of management and public administration, to satisfy the interests of the university and students in obtaining quality education, to provide each student, undergraduate and doctoral student with ample opportunities in choosing the content of training.
Tasks of the department:
- increasing the flexibility of the implementation of educational programs for full compliance with the requirements of the SES and the labor market;
- conducting theoretical, methodological and practical classes in the disciplines of the department at a high level;
- formation of educational and methodological materials and a base for classroom and extracurricular (independent) work, students using developed and updated practical materials with the participation of representatives of the employer (business structure),
- motivation of students to high achievements based on trust and skills, as well as values that contribute to the formation of personality, personal and professional development of the future manager;
- conducting scientific and practical research on topical issues and tasks of business within the framework of a scientific school with the participation of students;
- cooperation with organizations for internships, trainings on improving students.
Currently, the department implements a three-stage model of training on the credit system of training, in accordance with the Bologna Declaration: bachelor - master- PhD. The students of the department demonstrate outstanding success in their studies and scientific activities. Many students and undergraduates are winners and prize-winners of international and republican subject Olympiads and scientific competitions. Also, the department actively cooperates both with international organizations and their representative offices in Kazakhstan (Information and Educational Center – Central Asia Education First "Academic Programs"; Kazakhstan Council for Education Travel CCUSA Kazakhstan AIESEC,; Bolashak program, etc.), and higher educational institutions of the far and near abroad: Russian Friendship University Peoples (RUDN), Moscow; Belarusian State University, Minsk, etc. Over the years of its activity, the department has graduated more than 1,000 specialist managers, most of whom work in senior positions of enterprises, organizations, companies in Kazakhstan and foreign countries.

Training
The Department of “Tourism” and “Restaurant and Hotel Business” organizes and provides all types of professional practice.
Professional practice is a mandatory component of the educational program, aimed at applying students’ theoretical knowledge in a real professional environment, developing professional competencies, and effectively preparing them for future professional activities.
The Department maintains long-term cooperation with leading organizations in the hospitality industry.
In particular, the Department has partnered with the 5* hotel “Rixos President Astana” for 16 years.
This partnership enables students to master international service standards and advanced management practices directly in a professional environment.
Additionally, conferences are regularly held to present students’ practice reports, alongside round tables focused on graduate employment.
1st year
Educational and educational-cognitive practice is conducted at the “Tumar” Training and Recreation Center in the village of Zerendi, Akmola Region.
Students become familiar with the operation of tourism, hotel, and restaurant infrastructure, as well as the fundamentals of service culture.
At the end of the course, a practical training excursion covering all types of active tourism is organized, fostering the development of organizational, communication, and practical skills.
2nd year
Industrial practice is carried out at the Department base and in partner tourism organizations, hotels, and restaurants.
Students consolidate their knowledge in organizing tourism services, key operational processes of hotels and restaurants, customer service, and maintaining service quality.
3rd year
International practice takes place at Tashkent Perfect University (Uzbekistan).
This stage is aimed at developing professional and intercultural communication skills, mastering the international educational and service environment, and preparing students for the global labor market.
4th year
Industrial and diploma practice is conducted at the Department base and partner enterprises in the tourism, hotel, and restaurant sectors.
Diploma practice is conducted according to the topic of the final thesis and focuses on developing students’ managerial, analytical, and research competencies.
As a result, graduates become highly demanded, experienced, and professionally prepared specialists.
Employment
The tasks of employment are determined by the following factors:
- with the constant change of requirements for candidates from employers (employers want to have universal specialists capable of solving complex tasks, while solving new tasks requires specialists to have new knowledge);
- the emergence of new academic subjects and additional courses;
- the development of existing and the emergence of new forms of education.
The Department of "Tourism" of the L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University has started accepting and training students according to the curriculum "Hotel business and restaurant business" since 2019. Along with the theoretical education of young specialists, the department carries out a lot of work on practical improvement and consolidation of the acquired knowledge. The proof of this was that one of the innovations of 2020 was the creation of a branch of the Department of Tourism of L. N. Gumilev ENU in the restaurant "Mumtaz".
On March 31, 2021, a regular meeting of the Employers' Council was held at the L. N.Gumilev Eurasian National University. The employer Rixos President Astana 5* was invited to the Department of "Tourism". The report was made by the head of the personnel department of the hotel - Sultanova Asel Kozhenberdievna.
To date, the department's cooperation with employers is carried out in several directions:
- involvement of organizations in the educational process in order to create conditions for the development of practice-oriented learning;
- creation of a base for passing educational, industrial and pre-graduate practice;
- involvement of employers in the process of implementing the strategy of the department, within which they can sponsor the promotion of certain priorities of the department.
In this regard, it is planned to open educational laboratories of the Department of Tourism at the L. N. Gumilev Eurasian National University.
On April 9, 2021, the final year students of the Department of Tourism passed the certification of specialists in tourism, organized by the "Center for Certification of the Hospitality Industry" LLP, created on the basis of the Kazakhstan Tourist Association and the Kazakhstan Association of Hotels and Restaurants. 9 graduates applied for certification from the Department of "Tourism", of which 7 students qualified as "tourism manager" and 2 students qualified as "travel agent".
The level of professional competence of students of the specialty "Tourism" is always assessed at a high level by employers. Graduates of the Department of "Tourism" work in many leading organizations of the country and in companies in the field of tourism. In general, the department has a high rate of employment of graduates, there is a great demand for graduates in the labor market.

On November 29, 2023, 91 final year students of the educational programs "Tourism", "Restaurant Business and Hotel Business" of the graduate course of the «Tourism» Department of the Economics Faculty in a solemn ceremony received certificates for the qualifications "Tourism Manager", "Hotel administrator", "Restaurant administrator". The certification was organized by LLP "Certification Center for the Hospitality Industry" under the Kazakhstan Tourism Association (KTA) and the Kazakhstan Association of Hotels and Restaurants (KAHiR).
The certification procedure took place in an online format and consisted of two stages. The first stage, students passed a theoretical test consisting of 100 questions, from which they had to get at least 70 correct answers. The second stage was the practical part, which required the solution of situational case problems agreed with industry associations and NCE RK "Atameken". The certification was accepted by a qualification commission of experts on the assessment of personnel and employers in the field of tourism.
To award certificates of completion for internships in Turkey's five-star hotels to 2nd-year "Tourism" department students, representatives from the head department of the "FunPlusJob" company, Volkan Uchar and Sagatbek Kymbat, were invited to the event. In addition to gaining invaluable experience and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the collaboration allowed students to work in prestigious hotels in Antalya and Bodrum in roles including animator, receptionist, administrator, guest relations, and F&B staff.
An official presentation of certificates was held in the main building of the university with the participation of Vice-rector for Academic Affairs Makysh S.B., Director of the Department for Academic Affairs Kashkhynbay B.B., Head of the Career and Business Partnership Department Smagulova G.R., Dean of the Faculty of Economics Zhagyparova A.O., Head of the "Tourism" Department Mutalieva L.M., Director of «FunPlusJob» company Volkan Uchar and responsible for the employment of graduates Tukibayeva K.B. The university management made a congratulatory speech and wished students success in career growth.
The certificate was issued by the center, for a period of 2 years, with mandatory registration and inclusion in the Register of KTA, KAHiR. This certification made it possible to evaluate and confirm the knowledge and competencies of graduates in a specific qualification, and the certificate itself will serve as an additional document to the diploma of specialists in their further employment. An indicator of the effective implementation of the OP of the Department of Management is the successful completion of various types of practices, the percentage of employment. The work of the Department of Management on the employment of graduates is carried out according to university and faculty events: a job fair, an open day. In order to improve the organization of employment, the following measures are carried out: placement of current vacancies of the employer on the website www.enu.kz ; holding meetings with employers for the purpose of awareness of employment issues. The Department of Management holds various important events that contribute to the effective solution of the issues of employment of graduates. In addition, ENU has launched an electronic platform for registering employers and university students, where companies present vacancies, and graduates post their resumes. To date, more than 60 companies have been registered on the digital platform and about 1300 vacancies have been presented, and more than 400 additional places for internship.
Students of the OP "6B04101 – Management", "6B04107 – Organization Management", "6B04103 – State and local Management" undergo production and pre-graduate practice, and students of the OP "7M04103 - State and local Management", "7M04117 - Innovation Management", "7M04101-Management (Management of international projects)", "7M04101 - Management (International Management)", "7M04101-Management", "8D04117-Innovative management" undergo pedagogical, research practices. The purpose of pre-graduate practice is to complete the writing of a thesis, the purpose of industrial practice is to consolidate professional competencies, acquire practical skills and professional experience, the purpose of pedagogical practice is to develop skills in the application and implementation of teaching procedures in Higher education, the formation of professional competencies in the field of pedagogical and methodological activities, the purpose of research practice - familiarization with new theoretical, methodological and technological achievements of domestic and foreign science, modern methods of scientific research, processing and interpretation of experimental data. Students undergo pedagogical practice within the department, research practice on the basis of practice, which is the object of their dissertation research.

The Department of Tourism consistently develops international cooperation with the aim of integrating Kazakhstani higher education into the global academic space and ensuring high-quality training of specialists in the fields of economics, tourism, and hospitality.
The department maintains sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation with leading foreign universities and scientific and educational centers in the UK, USA, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, China, Serbia, and other countries.
Among the key partners of the department are: Akdeniz University, Dokuz Eylul University, Pamukkale University, Izmir University (Turkey); P. Lumumba Russian University of Friendship of Peoples, Altai State University, Southern Federal University (Russia); Renmin University, Xinjiang University (China), and others.
The Tourism Department employs teachers with degrees from foreign universities, including: Ulbolsyn Nurmanova — Master's degree from the University of Westminster (UK) and Istanbul University (Turkey); Asemzhar Nursultan — Master's degree from the Swiss Hotel Management School (Switzerland); Nurlybayev Beksultan — Master's degree from the University of Edinburgh (UK).

The department's international activities cover the following areas:
- academic mobility of students and faculty;
- implementation of dual degree programs;
- inviting foreign professors to give lectures and conduct seminars;
- joint research, publications, and participation in international conferences;
- organization of international summer and winter schools;
- exchange of teaching materials and advanced educational practices.
- The department implements dual degree programs at the master's level:
- with the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia and Southern Federal University (Tourism);
- with Altai State University (Restaurant and Hotel Business).
Various forms of support are available to students through Erasmus+, Student Ambassador, and other academic mobility programs. The university finances travel and accommodation for students from its own and targeted budgets, and also partially reimburses the costs of visas, medical insurance, and related services.
For the period 2021-2025, academic mobility demonstrates a high degree of internationalization of the bachelor's degree program in Tourism, which shows the greatest activity and geographical coverage among the levels of education offered. The program actively implements international exchange opportunities for both outgoing and incoming mobility.
Master's students participate in the external outgoing mobility program. Mobility is carried out within the framework of interuniversity agreements and official invitations from foreign universities.
For example, master's students have completed internships at the Institute of Hotel Business and Tourism at RUDN University, Shota Rustaveli State University in Batumi, and Bukhara State University.
The geography of outgoing mobility covers various international regions, which confirms the existence of partnership agreements with universities in different academic and cultural environments.
Faculty members receive organizational and financial support for participation in international projects, conferences, and exchange programs. For example, Professors N.A. Uruzbaeva and L.M. Mutalieva gave lectures at Bukhara State University, and Master's student Asemzhar N.D. taught classes at the International University of Tourism and Hospitality.
The department regularly invites renowned foreign scholars to give lecture courses and participate in research projects. In recent years, the number of foreign professors involved in teaching at the bachelor's and master's levels has increased.
Professor Rab Navaz Lodhi of Punjab University taught students research methods, helping them develop skills in planning research activities, selecting tools, and processing results. Students actively use the knowledge they have gained in preparing coursework and final projects.
In December 2023, Professor V. Filimonov (University of Surrey) taught a course entitled “Choosing Research Methods for Writing Doctoral and Master's Theses.”
The department has a dissertation council for the D143 program in tourism under educational programs 6D090200 – Tourism and 8D11105 (6D090200) – Tourism. Public defenses of doctoral dissertations are held with the participation of representatives of Eurasian National University and other universities in Kazakhstan.
Each doctoral student is assigned a foreign scientific advisor who has a PhD or Doctor of Science degree, publications in Scopus or Web of Science over the past 5 years, and experience in scientific supervision. Foreign advisors include: A.H. Devadze (Batumi State University, Georgia); V. Krastev (Varna University of Economics, Bulgaria); O.H. Khamidov (Bukhara State University, Uzbekistan); V. Thus, the international activities of the Department of Tourism are structured in accordance with international academic standards and aimed at integrating education, science, and practice. A wide network of partnerships, active academic mobility, the participation of foreign professors, and joint research projects ensure a high level of training for students and contribute to the competitiveness of graduates in the international labor market.
International cooperation is an important part of the Department of Management in providing quality education and bringing the education system in line with international standards. In order to improve the educational process and exchange international experience at the faculty, the department implements an organized system of scientific cooperation with higher educational institutions of near and far abroad countries. Information about foreign scientists invited to give lectures at the Department of Management
Attracting foreign specialists to ENU is implemented on the basis of the "Regulations on attracting foreign specialists and the procedure for reimbursing the costs of their invitation". ENU attracts foreign specialists as foreign scientific consultants, to give lectures at faculties and conduct joint research. Scientists are attracted from such countries as China, Russia, USA, Turkey, Poland, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, etc. In addition to the implementation of the program of financing foreign specialists at the expense of ENU funds on a long-term basis, a program of attracting foreign specialists on a remote basis at the expense of the ENU budget has been implemented since 2020. The main purpose of the research activities of the Department of Management is to develop and support scientific research as the basis for the fundamentalization of education, as a base of training qualified workers in accordance with the needs of the state and society.

Over the past few years, the Department of Tourism has contributed to the upgrading of the University's rankings both nationally and internationally. As obvious evidence, the following facts can be cited:

"Tourism" department has a high scientific potential. The teaching staff of the department actively participates in international scientific conferences, in total more than 50 scientific articles are published a year. The results of scientific research are reflected in articles published in journals with a nonzero impact factor (at least 7 articles annually), as well as in scientific monographs published abroad. Half of the entire teaching staff has a Hirsch Index according to the Scopus database. At the beginning of the academic year, the staff of the department made progress in the field of research and publication of their works in highly indexed international journals, namely: the publication of "Thomson Reuters" for the last academic year - 1 article and the database "Scopus" - 9 articles; also published 6 monographs and 5 textbooks and teaching aids;
At the same time, the staff of the department participates in various scientific projects and contributes to the development of the tourist industry. Our students are socially active and, during various important events for the country, the city and the University, they work as volunteers and translators, attracting guests from abroad to participate in EXPO-2017.
On a regular basis, the Tourism Department organizes scientific events, including conferences, round tables, scientific and practical seminars jointly with foreign partner universities (RUDN University, Tashkent State Economic University, Siberian Institute of Management - a branch of RANEPA), as well as JSC NC "KazakhTourism"
In 2020, the teaching staff of the department published two textbooks in English, which were recommended for publication at a meeting of the educational and methodological association - the project management group in the areas of personnel training in "Tourism" on the basis of the Kazakh Academy of Sports and Tourism.

From January 15 to January 19, 2024, 3rd year students of the L. Associate Professor of the Management Department, Dinara Mukhiyayeva, participated as a speaker in the Green Energy Management-2025 Central Asia Edition summer school, which took place from 23 to 27 June at the Mirzo Ulugbek National University of Uzbekistan and the Technical University of Tashkent. The topic of the presentation was ‘Features of the Implementation of ESG Principles in the Corporate Governance System of Central Asian Countries.’ This is the 7th school in the Central Asian region, initiated in 2017 by the Eurasian National University. Teaching is conducted in the form of consideration of practical examples, a combination of lectures and practical classes, diverse use of digital technologies, increased interaction with practice, student-centered learning.Foreign colleagues prepared presentations, handouts with information about universities, methods of implementing problem-oriented learning, willingly shared their practical experience in organizing educational and scientific activities, prospects for the latest platforms for the application of innovative teaching methods.As part of the internship, Associate Professor of the Department of Management K.K.Khasenova, co-authored with Professor of Lincoln University, Associate Professor and Partnership Manager Antony Daniels, published a monograph on the topic "HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN: Priority development of Public Administration System" (dedication of the monograph to comparative analysis based on materials from the Republic of Kazakhstan and developed countries and its publication in English will undoubtedly be significant for foreign students in the country).

A 2nd–year student of the specialty "State and Local Administration" Merkibai Ayazhan was awarded the medal "Best Young Scientist - 2022" for her contribution and development of science and education. This event was held with the support of the Association of Legal Entities in the form of the association "National Movement "Bobek". Implementing the educational program on the specialty "Tourism", the availability of material and technical base and information resources is one of the main factors of professional training of specialists. Leadership, teaching staff of the department conduct systematic work on the analysis of the needs of educational programs in material and technical and information resources.
Training of students on the educational programs of the department "Tourism" is carried out at the Faculty of Economics in the 9-floor educational and laboratory building № 5, the total area - 1220.29 sq.m.
In order to develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of professional activity and provide quality classes, specialized audiences of the Department of Tourism 515, 822 and 118, which are equipped with modern furniture, computer equipment, multimedia equipment (118 - lecture hall; 515 auditorium - for undergraduates, equipped with 1 LG TV, 1 Hp laptop). There is a broadband connection to the Internet via a fiber-optic line. Access to the network is provided to those involved in the educational process and used in the administration of educational activities.
There are also specialized rooms adapted for special offers. They are located and used in the Rixos Astana Hotel. Classes on active types of tourism are held on the basis of the SCCP "Center for Youth Tourism and Local History" of the Akimat of the city of Nur-Sultan. They are equipped with the necessary tourist equipment, materials and multimedia applications.
In December 2021, in the sports complex "Eurasia" located at the address: 23 Yklasa Dukenuly Street, a training complex "Climbing wall" was installed for conducting training and practical classes in the disciplines "Turizmnin belsendi turlerinin techniques men tactics", "Technique and tactics of active types of tourism", "Tourism instructors".
L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University strives to constantly improve the use of information technology in the organization of the educational process. The university has information resources, such as, the management system of the educational process the AIT "Platonus", the electronic library, the website of the information technology service.
The Scientific Library is an important structural subdivision in the scientific and educational environment of the university. Education of Degree Program students of the Department of Management is held in the nine-storied educational building № 5. The academic space per a student of the department is equal to 65 square meters, taking into account double-shifted classes. During the education 4 classrooms, 4 reading rooms for 350 seats, a sports hall with a total area of 430 square meters are used.

The study rooms are equipped with modern educational furniture, computer equipment, traditional and multimedia boards, stands, laboratory equipment, visual stands, and sports equipment. For people with disabilities in the study campus there is a ramp and a large elevator.
ENU increased the library's general fund, the base as of the 2022-2023 academic year is 1,650,591 copies, including in the Kazakh language - 4,60313 copies. (27.6% of the total fund). Among them:
- educational and educational-methodical literature - 1056420 copies. (63.4% of the total fund), including in Kazakh language - 300651 (18% of the total fund);
- Scientific literature - 419912 copies. (25.2% of the total fund), including in Kazakh language - 104795 (6.2% of the total fund);
- additional literature – 188759 (11,3 % of the total fund), ncluding in Kazakh languagе – 54867 (3,3 % оf the total fund);
- the fund of periodicals is 24873 copies (695 titles), including in Kazakh language -7438 copies. (238 titles).
The library, taking into account the changed interests of users, contributes to their obtaining information of any kind, including on the basis of the new information technologies. At the same time, the library completes its funds not only with books, but also complements the book fund with information on new media, developing the existing forms of work with a book.
Library hours are sufficiently responsive to the needs of students, which provides access to literature and magazines, as well as to digital material. The literature required for the EP is available and regularly updated. Academic and operational information for students and teachers is displayed on the site and web portals of ENU and the department. Computer classes are provided with the access to the Internet and the local network of the university. The Internet bandwidth is 100 Mbps.
